From AI shaping what we write to algorithms learning filmmaking and robots navigating city streets, discover how intelligent systems are entering everyday life. Three speakers reveal the promises, limits, and surprising ways AI is transforming how we communicate, create, and interact.
When AI can Change your Mind (and When it Cannot)
Mor Naaman
(Don and Mibs Follett Professor - Cornell Tech)
Smart replies, auto-complete, text suggestions... AI seems to appear (or interfere) everywhere where we write text. This talk will cover our research looking at the implications of these "helpful" agents -- showing that AI suggestions can shift the language that we use, the content that we write, and even our opinions. On the other hand, I will also cover our research showing the limits of AI help, which seems to not always be able to bring *real* change.
Step into AI filmmaking
Ran Zhang
(Lead Researcher - Tencent Americas)
What if AI could help make movies? In this talk, I’ll share how smart algorithms and model design are teaching machines the language of filmmaking, how to light a scene, move the camera, and even act as a storytelling agent that helps plan and create cinematic scenes. You’ll leave with a glimpse of how filmmaking might change in the age of AI.
Robots Among Us
Wendy Ju
(Associate Professor - Cornell Tech)
Ever wish that _somebody_ would just clean the dog poop from the street, or take away your garbage, or bring you a drink? A robot could be that somebody! But, to be useful in our everyday lives, robots need to trained to behave properly in public. My talk is about human robot interaction in public urban spaces, and what a robot needs to get by in the big city.
